COMMON QUESTIONS
01What data source does windr use?↓
windr pulls forecast data directly from the official US government weather service — the same underlying data professional mariners rely on. Forecasts are updated every few hours as new model runs complete.
02How far ahead does windr forecast?↓
windr shows a 7-day hourly forecast for your selected location, broken out by period so you can quickly assess the best windows for your sail.
03Can I save locations?↓
Your most recently viewed location is remembered automatically between sessions. Full multi-location bookmarking is on the roadmap — if that's important to you, let us know at the contact below and it'll move up the priority list.
04What wind speed units are used?↓
windr displays wind speed in knots — the natural unit for sailing. This reflects how the app was built: by a sailor, for sailors.
05Does windr work offline?↓
windr is a Progressive Web App (PWA) and will cache the last-loaded forecast for offline reference. A live internet connection is required to pull fresh forecast data.
06How do I install windr on my phone?↓
On iOS (Safari): tap the Share icon → "Add to Home Screen." On Android (Chrome): tap the menu → "Add to Home Screen" or look for the install prompt in the address bar. windr installs as a full-screen app with no browser chrome.
07Why is the forecast different from another app?↓
Different apps may use different forecast models (GFS, NAM, HRRR) or interpolation methods. windr uses the official US government marine forecast. Small discrepancies between apps are normal — always cross-reference before heading out in marginal conditions.
08I found a bug. What should I do?↓
Please email us at [email protected] with a description of what happened, what you expected, and your device/browser. Screenshots are always helpful. We take bugs seriously and will respond promptly.
